A Journey on the Silk Road
A free online game for world history classes. Students lead a merchant caravan across Afro-Eurasia in the 1340s: they choose a home city and a route, buy and sell in the bazaars, cross deserts and mountain passes, and survive the Black Death. Along the way they answer questions built on real primary sources, from Ibn Battuta to Pegolotti's merchant handbook.
- Covers AP® World History: Modern Units 1 and 2 (c. 1200 to c. 1450): the Silk Roads, the Mongol Empire, the Indian Ocean, and trans-Saharan trade.
- Free, with no student accounts. Plays in any browser, on laptops, Chromebooks, and phones.
- Class mode: students join with a class code, and the teacher gets a live map for the projector and results to download.
